Babies on Žižkovská věž

BABIES ON ŽIŽKOVSKÁ VĚŽ | 2000 a 2019

The babies were initially created for installation on the Museum of Modern Arts in Chicago. But they also appeared, for instance, in London on the building of the Czech Embassy.

The gigantic babies have some sort of code in place of the faces, which transforms them not only into scary creatures, but also evokes thought. David Černý says that although they can be attractive on one side, but at the same time also somewhat scary technological development.

The babies were first installed on Žižkov Tower in 2000 within the scope of the Prague – European Cultural City project. A total of ten 10 toddler sculptures crawling upwards and downwards should have been temporarily installed on the tower, but thanks to positive response, they remained there permanently. The babies had to be replaced with you babies after 17 years. They are here from spring 2019.

Did you know that...

The sculptures are 350 cm long and 260 cm tall. The initial sculptures weighed 190 kg, the new sculptures from 2019 are 160 kg heavier and weigh 350 kg.
